Fire Island Photographer | LGBTQ+ & Queer Photography | koitz

For two decades, koitz has photographed life in Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines, two communities central to the history of LGBTQ+ life in America. His photographs move between public celebration and private experience: Invasion of the Pines, Independence Day, Low Tea, beaches, ferries, house parties and intimate moments between friends. Rather than approaching Fire Island as an outsider, koitz photographs a community of which he has long been part. The result is a visual archive of queer freedom, self-expression and belonging.
 

In koitz's "imagined" photographic world, he wants to give the illusion that you never have to go back to work. You never have to come down from the high. You get to stay where you belong, where you fit in. (Jim Meacci)
